Linux Administrator

Job description

NOTE: Early or Immediate joiners are preferred

Person will be the Linux specialist in our internal I.T. Department. He is expected to be an expert on Linux servers, ApacheZimbra email server, Firewalls, and network security. Knowledge of Windows Server Administration will be a plus. He will report to head of our IT department, which includes a Windows Network Administrator, a Linux Network Administrator, and a Hardware Maintenance Engineer.

A list of activities is given here, for which Linux Administrator will be responsible directly:

Education– B.Tech/MCA/BCA

Certification– Any certification in linux or DB would be a plus

1. Linux Server Maintenance: We have 6+ Linux servers in our office, most of which are on Internet.

1.1. Linux OS Support Red Hat and CENTOS

1.2. Installation and upkeep of these servers: Ensure 99.9% uptime

1.3. Anti-virus, Firewalls, Anti-hacking software installation and updating.

1.4. Disk Space Management

1.5. Managing Apache, hosting of web-sites on these servers

1.6. Taking regular back-ups

1.7. User Management:

1.7.1. Restricting space utilization

1.7.2. Restricting Access to certain folders etc

1.8. Ensuring that Email System is working properly

1.9. Security Management

1.10. Maintenance of original OS and Software CDs of these servers

1.11. All Administrative and Super-user passwords

1.12. Hardware Support, includes maintenance of supporting equipment like UPS

2. Database (MySQL, MariaDB) Installation

2.1. Installation of Databases like MYSQL, MariaDB etc

2.2. Upgrade of Databases to higher version

2.3. Administration of these Databases like taking backups, accessing slow query logs, creating users, restricting access rights etc

3. LAN Network Maintenance

3.1. Hardware / Wiring Support

3.2. Support of all switches, hubs and related network equipment, includes Maintenance of supporting equipment like UPS

3.3. Ensuring that our LAN is up, running always.

4. Internet Connectivity: for all DSL/Leased lines in various offices

4.1. Ensuring that internet connection lines are up & running: includes all work related to installation, shifting, disconnection etc

4.2. Coordination / Liaison with ISPs in all related matters

4.3. Security of internet access: Internet access should be restricted to various employees, as per company policies.

4.4. Approval of ISP bills

4.5. Maintenance of DSL / Leased Lines Modems, Wireless Access Points, Firewalls and other supporting hardware

4.6. All Administrative and Super-user passwords

5. Email (on Zimbra) and FTP Accounts:

5.1. Creation, Deletion, and Maintenance of Official Email Accounts

5.2. Space allocation to email accounts

5.3. Back-up Emails

5.4. Creation, Deletion, and Maintenance of FTP Accounts

5.5. All concerned Control Panel and FTP passwords

6. Office Security Maintenance

6.1. Inter Office Connectivity: VPN

6.2. All concerned Administrative and Super-user passwords

6.3. Anti-copying measures in office:

6.3.1. Restriction of access on LAN server

6.3.2. Disabling USB drives of Workstations, wherever required

6.3.3. Controlling outgoing email sizes

6.3.4. Controlling Wireless connectivity on Desktops, Laptops, Mobile Phones etc
